Chapter One Hundred Ninety-Eight: The Four Directions Stable — the Eight Expanses All Settled
Volume Five: Body-Perish Dao-Transformation — Myriad Realms First Born
With the celestial bodies in place, the world's spatial framework achieved its final stability. The Four Poles — those great anchors that Pangu had established at the cardinal directions — now locked into position, their foundations driven so deep into the earth that nothing short of the world's ending could dislodge them. The Eight Expanses aligned around them, forming a complete pattern of directions by which every place beneath Heaven could be known.
The Four Poles were not merely directional markers. They were energy nodes — focal points where the world's qi gathered most densely. The eastern pole, where the sun rose, was a place of beginnings, rich with Wood qi and the energy of spring. The southern pole was a place of heat and Fire qi, where the sun's rays fell most directly. The western pole was a place of Metal qi, of autumn and harvest and the gathering-in of things. The northern pole was a place of Water qi, of winter and stillness and deep, quiet power.
And at the center of it all — the exact center of the world — was the point where Pangu had stood for eighteen thousand years. That point was now the axis around which everything turned: the world's spiritual center, the place where the Chaos Primal Embryo pulsed, the heart of creation.
The Four Directions stable, the Eight Expanses all settled. The world's geography was complete. Every place had its nature, every direction its meaning. The blank canvas of creation had become a map.
