Chapter One Hundred Thirty-Seven: The Breath of Life in Nature — Growing Richer Day by Day

Volume Four: The Dao Gives Rise to Myriad Things — Life First Sprouts

With the four seasons operating steadily, the vitality of Heaven and Earth grew richer with each passing day. The organic matter and primitive plant life that had initially appeared only in localized patches now spread to ever broader regions. Each spring, the earth grew greener; the primeval mosses now covered more and more of the ground.

The concentration of spirit qi also continued to rise. As the Wuxing cycle perfected itself, the volume of spirit qi generated grew ever larger. The energy density between Heaven and Earth had now reached a level that even Pangu — himself a being of energy — could feel viscerally. Standing between Heaven and Earth, he felt as though he were standing in an ocean of energy.

The tiny Spirit Resonance scattered across the world began to show new changes. Some resonances now merged with one another, forming larger clusters. These clusters were no longer simple condensations of energy — they had begun to display something resembling primitive awareness. They did not think, did not feel in any way Pangu could recognize, but they responded to stimuli: turning toward light, retreating from cold, clustering around sources of spirit qi the way moths would one day cluster around flame.

Nature's breath of life, growing richer day by day. The world was no longer merely a material shell — it was becoming a living world, breath by breath, hidden seed by hidden seed. And Pangu, watching it all unfold, felt something he had never expected to feel at the end of all things: hope.
